No word on suspected ISIS Trinis
The minister made the statement on Monday following the launch of the Twelfth Conference of Defence Ministers of the Americas (CDMA) at Tower C, Wrightson Road, Port of Spain.
Dillon told reporters, “As far as we understand there has been no update or even official confirmation on the nine persons held in Turkey.
We have made those requests and we are awaiting a response from the Turkish government.” Dillon explained that due to recent political upheaval in Turkey, in the form of an attempted military coup, the response of the Turkish government in processing the nine arrested may be slower than normal.
“You need to understand that what’s going on in Turkey, with a recent attempted coup, that resulted in almost 155 persons being arrested, the response may be a bit slower than usual.” The minister said the threat of international terrorism is one of the topics expected to be discussed during the two-day CDMA in October.
