Ramsanahie defeats Dowden in Fine Line contest

Ramsanahie seemed to have the majority of the crowd support on the night as loud cheers heralded his arrival to the ring.

Trained by Jason Ramoutar, son of well-known local instructor Bharrath Ramoutar, Ramsanahie made light work of his opponent even though he suffered a flush front kick to the face early in the rounds.

He however, showed great poise and then proceeded to land heavy kicks and punches of his own, causing referee Donald Snaggs to call a stop to the contest.

In other bouts, Andell Lakhan (Unattached) showed grit and determination as he fought off a valiant effort from the Rough House heavy-hitter, Ronaldo Diaz. Both young men had their moments in the clash as the fight swayed in favour of each fighter.

In the end, Lakhan secured victory by split decision.

Young Roshad Khan opened the evening for Fine Line and was made to work hard for his victory against Jehrell Alonzo (Team Elite). Rough House was very well represented by a composed Donell Phillip as the 15-year-old stopped his Tobago Martial Arts Academy opponent, Malcom Kennedy, via split decision.

Additionally, Fine Line’s Randhir Harry and Nicholas Persad had to utilise all their skills to overcome their opponents. Harry remained composed in fighting off a tough Keston Andrews (Rough House) while Persad, on the other hand, used different tactics to bounce around the ring on his way to a win over AIM Fitness’s Royel Haynes.

In the female category, competitive debutant Shantel Adams (Fine Line), landed an early jab followed by a powerful straight right which decked Tobago kickboxer, Shineka Samuels.

After taking an eight count, Samuels came out swinging at Adams who neatly avoided the heavy punches. Looking to finish up, Adams threw a barrage of strong punches but unfortunately hurt her shoulder in the process.

The bout was initially ended in a no-contest as it was within the distance of the first round and was stopped due to injury.

However, the judges overturned the decision awarding it to an elated Samuels. Adams was accompanied to the ring by former world boxing champion and international kickboxing champion, Ria Ramnarine. She is also a product of Ramnarine’s “Boxing Beyond the Ring” programme.

The heavyweights were not to be left out though as the popular Kenneth ‘Ironman’ Bishop, engaged in an exhibition bout against Chad Warrick while Jealani Garcia literally walked away with victory against Ryan Sooknarine in a somewhat slowpaced bout. Earlier on the card, tiny-mite brothers Samir and Sahir Ali, warmed up the ring in an exhibition while Team Elite’s five-year-old, Christian Winter, had the crowd applauding throughout an impressive karate demonstration.

On the night, the majority of kickboxers were first-timers and the fact that many of the bouts were closely contested, proved that this was the perfect way to get their feet wet in the square ring.

The event was sanctioned by the Trinidad and Tobago Kickboxing Federation. The Fine Line promotion team thanked the clubs and athletes who participated in the event and extends sincere appreciation to the sponsors who made it possible - Abbott Nutrition, V&N Auto Supplies, Chaguanas Auto Supplies, OMG Magazine, Evolution Fitness and Toby’s Bar.
