Too late for Kamla, Rowley crime talks
When the roles were reversed and despite the then downward trending of violent crime, Rowley, Faris Al-Rawi and Fitzgerald Hinds played political football with each murder statistic and claimed that, given the chance, they could and would do better
Now, almost a year since being given that chance, the country is experiencing a murderous killing spree like never before in its history. And to make the matter worse, there is the unprecedented situation of three Ministers of National Security in office at the same time, all failing in harmony
Last week a nineyear- old boy was executed gangland style
If I were the Opposition Leader, instead of offers of help, I would hang each death around the neck of the Prime Minister like the badge of shame each one ought to be, because had Rowley less personal ambition and more love of country, he would have admitted that he and his pickup side were in no shape or form ready to govern, and would have worked with the then government to broaden and deepen the gains that were being made
What are meetings going to accomplish at this stage of the game? Will Rowley accept offers of help or advice that, if successful in reducing crime, would have the effect of exposing his shortcomings? At the risk of sounding heartless, I would leave him to stew, until the very people who were fooled by fancy sound bites and catchy campaign slogans show up outside his office door demanding that he and his band of neophyte misfits demit office and allow those who demonstrated that they at least had a clue as to what to do to get back down to the real job of government, and not this political masquerade we have been enduring for the last almost 12 months
