Top pan on d’Avenue ...Percussionists to be honoured
Among them, Panorama 2016 champs Desperadoes and former pan champs bp Renegades, Massy Trinidad All Stars, Phase II Pan Groove, Republic Bank Exodus, PCS Nitrogen Silver Stars and MHTL Starlift.
A production of the Woodbrook/ St James Community Association, the event is in celebration of Independence and this year, also in recognition of the pan.
The parade will head east on Ariapita Avenue and will also feature moko jumbies and rhythm sections. It starts at 6.30 pm and ends at 2 am.
A cultural presentation will take place at Adam Smith Square prior to the parade and during the event, “Engine Room” percussionists will be awarded.
Among them are Sonilal “Killer” Samaroo, Andrew “Soca” Brumant, Kenneth Clarke, Ronnie Howard, Phillip Elder, James Inniss, Hayden Holder, Desmond Patron, Olatungi Balagun, Jason Lewis, Errol Collins, Christopher Mohammed, Victor Mc Queen, Vance Romain and Keith Diaz.
The parade will be in memory of Antonio Amigo Nadur whose achievements include the Monday night steelband competition held at Adam Smith Square, and also in memory of Asami Nagakiya, Japanese pannist who chose to play with Woodbrook steelbands.
Triniscene.com will set up a photo booth at the square, offering instant photos, while Carib and blink bmobile girls will be involved in promotional giveaways.
Also, Arrive Alive, in partnership with Sagicor General, will be on hand to administer breathalyser tests.
