Youth club helping to change community
What I admired most was the fact that the residents of Agatha’s House, a home for seniors, were invited and transported to the venue by the police officers. I liked it even more to see the young members in my community doing their best, entertaining and interacting with the seniors.
I loved when they invited us seniors to the dance floor and the children were also a part of it. I enjoyed watching how eager they were to share the tokens, how they performed even though some were braver than others, but they too enjoyed themselves.
We always talk about bridging the generation gap but as I continued to be entertained by our young leaders of tomorrow I had cause to think.
Sometimes we seniors are the ones who create that gap.
Maybe due to the changing times and keeping up with the trends, that connection between the younger and older generation is moving further apart.
I am glad to know there is a police youth club in my community and this is something we all need to be part of because we want to see change and each of us can help to create the change we want in our community.
I was first made aware the club in 2014 when it started a food distribution drive. Last year it did the same thing again, distributing hampers to families and bringing much Christmas cheers to them.
Keep up the good work.
To the members of the Maraval/ Paramin Police Youth Club, continue to do your best, be an example to others, believe in yourselves. For example, if the two hosts of the day, Clinesha Alfred and Johnathon Roberts, didn’t believe in themselves they wouldn’t have done as fabulous a job as they did.
To the leaders, WPC Roberts and WPC Myer, continue to work with our young people regardless of the challenges that may come your way.
It takes special people with loving hearts to do what you women do. Things will only get better when you keep at it.
To my community members, we too have a role to play. Let us support our young people, let’s guide them, let’s also listen to them and let us all be the change we want. As the young people say, “big up”.
