1,000 more cops to fight crime
Last week, Akbar Khan celebrated 53 years as a JP and whilst he is pleased with his tenure of public service, Khan is saddened by the level of criminal activity, especially murders,
As he celebrated quietly at his home in Valsayn last week Wednesday, Khan sent off a terse letter to National Security Minister Brigadier Edumund Dillon,
He suggested that in order to stem the amount of criminal activities, especially murders and robberies involving the use of firearms, Khan suggested that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Force set in motion the process for the recruiting of more than 1,000 police officers. “And, I am advising that the government purchase about 600 more vehicles for use by the police service,” Khan said,
But Khan said that he was at pains to comprehend why, when there are shootings, like what occurred in La Romaine in which nine-year-old Cyron Emanuel Paul was shot, the assailants are often times never apprehended by the police,
Their modus operandi of escaping from the scene, is running away, and then, in vehicles,
A helicopter from the Air Guard Unit, has to journey from its base in Wallerfield, “so how can they ever catch up”,
Khan said, “I am recommending that there be a base in Central and south Trinidad, and, the Government purchase a helicopter each, to equip these bases. There must be a helicopter positioned in Chaguanas, and, one on the outskirts of San Fernando.”
