Life was better under UNC
THE EDITOR: It is just a matter of time before the people of this country realise that the current government is doing more bad than good for Trinidad and Tobago. If you compare the time when the UNC governed to now, you will notice a significant difference in the quality of life and the direction the country is heading. There was more control in the economy during the period 1996-2001, food prices were down, unemployment was down and there was better reinvestment of oil funds.
Generally the country was managed more sensibly. Now what we have is a situation where food prices are rising every day, unemployment is high — higher than the government realises, crime is rampant, there is no substantial job creation and the majority of the oil money is being wasted on social programmes which have no real potential of improving the skills of population. If we are to continue like this then we will be facing a bleak future.
