UNC: Govt dancing with the criminals

THE OPPOSITION UNC has called on the nation to pray for the return of peace, justice, truth and fairness to Trinidad and Tobago because the Government is allegedly “dancing with the criminals and using the coercive arm of the State to harass, intimidate and bully those in opposition to them.” In its Divali 2004 message, the Opposition said an understanding and appreciation of TT’s cultural and religious diversity makes discrimination and inequality “an anathema and should be resisted by all right-thinking people.” The UNC urged the national community to remember all the persons murdered thus far for 2004 and particularly those who were allegedly killed by “rogue elements in the Police Service.”

The Opposition also said the national community must remember the former Caroni workers and  persons living below the poverty line in TT. “Divali gives us an opportunity to reflect and take cognisance of our own future as citizens of a country where democracy is under threat by those who were installed to defend it. Law and order is collapsing all around us,” the UNC declared. In a separate release, Chaguanas MP Manohar Ramsaran said Hindus must stand up for what is right and “understand what is happening around us.” He advised the population: “Do good and good will follow you.”
