Divali rush — ROTI SHOPS SELL OUT
From as early as 9 am yesterday, roti shops throughout the country were bombarded with customers, seeking freshly made “Buss up shot” and “Roti Skins.” Seeram Patraj, owner Patraj Roti Shop on Tragarete Road, told Newsday that it was a “sell-out day,” with over 1,500 paratha and dhalpurie skins being sold before lunch time. “People lined up from as early as 9.30 this morning demanding large quantities of roti,” said Patraj. He told Newsday that because of the overwhelming response, several people had to be turned away, as they were unable to meet the demands of customers.
Patraj and his workers have decided to open their doors from 8 am today to cater for those persons who did not receive their order yesterday. Hosein’s Roti Shop on Charlotte Street, Port-of-Spain, also suffered the same damage, as operations manager, Narack Ali, told Newsday that as soon as their doors opened, people swarmed the business place with orders. Up to 4 pm yesterday, Hoseins was still feeling the heat as customers continued to come in. However, both roti shop owners were not at all surprised by the increase in sales, since they discovered that people preferred to buy the “skins,” and make the curry for themselves. Hoseins is also expected to open their doors today from 8 am.
