Unfortunate accident at Aranjuez bridge

Only last Saturday, Newsday published a repeated call by Aranjuez Village Council president, Bissoon Birsingh, for a new Aranjuez bridge in the vicinity of the villas. The call went out to the Ministry of Works to build “A real bridge” over the Aranjuez River. To quote Birsingh: “The temporary bridge over the river is a threat to the safety of both residents and vehicular traffic.” Around 8 pm on Tuesday — a few days after Birsingh’s repeated call “for the umpteenth time” on behalf of the Village Council — what the villagers feared, occurred. A young man identified only as Dennis of Arima (he was too traumatised to give his full name and address), was driving his black Mitsubishi Lancer, when he missed the turn at the bridge and plunged into the Aranjuez River. Fortunately, the young man escaped any serious injuries, but his female passenger had to be hospitalised.
