Halliburton submits report to EMA
HALLIBURTON (Trinidad) Limited has met the Environmental Management Authority’s (EMA) deadline for submitting an official report on explosions at Buenos Ayres, Erin, more than three weeks ago. EMA Assistant Corporate Communications Officer Kirk Jean-Baptiste told Newsday the questionnaire filled out by Halliburton was received last Friday. “We are currently in the process of reviewing the content of this questionnaire,” Jean-Baptiste said. He said fire service officials will be contacted for additional information, following which Halliburton will be contacted.
“Upon analysis of the information, a final report will be submitted to the legal department of the EMA for review and a final decision would be made as to the next course of action,” he said Halliburton Accounting Manager Gerard Pichery said his company has not completed its investigations into the explosions, but confirmed that a full report was submitted to the EMA.
“We have submitted the requested report and are waiting for the EMA to contact us,” Pichery said. In a media statement a week ago, the EMA said it submitted a preliminary report to Halliburton and had asked for a response from the company. EMA officials visited the area on October 27 to conduct field tests. The EMA is continuing investigations into whether or not Halliburton’s action breached regulations under the Environmental Management Act of 2000, particularly the Noise Pollution Control Rules and the Certificate of Environmental Clearance Rules.
