Felicity labourer dies after stabbing

A Chaguanas Regional Corporation labourer was stabbed to death yesterday morning by a man whom relatives believe was mentally disturbed. Shakar Jagdeo, 57, aka “Bundo” received a single stab wound to his stomach around 6 am at his Lyle Road, Felicity home and died 15 minutes later at the Chaguanas Medical Facility. A 54-year-old relative, who recently lost all the money he received after being retrenched from Caroni, had become frustrated and was seen behaving strangely at times, was later arrested and is assisting police with their investigations. According to Kimragie Jagdeo, sister of the dead man, around 6 am while preparing things for her nephew to go to school, she heard a call by her front gate. “I looked out and recognised the persons. At that same time my brother shouted out to my mother ‘don’t bother to go’ and that he would attend to the matter.

“Shortly after, I heard my mother screaming that my brother had been stabbed and called for my other brother to assist. I ran downstairs in time to see my brother walk to the back of the house then to the front where he stumbled, the dog prevented the intruder from getting in the gate to stab my brother further.” Shakar was rushed to the hospital where he died 15 minutes later. “The thing about it is he and the man, who have been friends for a long time, had a squabble some time ago but had patched that up. As a matter of fact on the day before they were drinking soft drinks and liming together.” The relatives denied there was any argument between the two or that any threats were made.

Another relative however, explained that three months ago Shakar and some other youths had accosted a woman in the area, which caused a man to get angry. This man confronted Shakar and they had several fights, including one where a “bullboy” was used. “After the thing got out of hand they decided to settle their differences and were even seen drinking , smoking and eating chow the day before. Ever since that money finish, that man has been acting strangely and it was while acting this way he killed his friend.” Shakar will be buried tomorrow under Hindu rites.
