Youths, look to TT achievements

We have won two Miss Universe titles, first with Janelle “Penny” Commissong in 1977 then with Wendy Fitzwilliam in 1998, and a Miss World with Giselle La Ronde-West in 1986.

In the world of sport, we have the world record holder for the most runs scored in an innings in Test cricket in Brian Lara, 100 metres gold medallist at the Montreal Olympics in 1976 in Hasely Crawford, and the winner of the javelin throw at the London Olympics in 2012 in Keshorn Walcott.

In literature VS Naipaul won the Nobel Prize in 2001, and in fashion Anya Ayoung-Chee came out top in TV’s Project Runway.

So I would say TT as a developing nation has lots to be proud of and my hope is that the youths of this country will look back at our achievements and try to stay away from crime.

Let us make this nation a safer place for all of its citizens and visitors.
