PNM group not satisfied with candidate

“It is not late for the Political Leader to make the change,” Curvis Sinnette, who is leading the charge told Newsday yesterday.

If a change cannot be made, Sinnette said, the members of five groups are in favour of withholding their votes at the election.

The choice of the party’s screening committee, Sinnette claims, has no grounding with the people.

The choice, he claimed, was based on favouritism and not merit. In a letter sent to Rowley, Sinnette said that the selected person has “no track record of helping people” and “does not have ground support.” The group, which Sinnette leads, has called on the Rowley and Party Chairman Franklin Khan to retain the incumbent Enroy Slater who has served two terms, through a petition in which some 1,300 signatures were obtained. Slater had achieved much during his tenure, Sinnette said. According to Sinnette, the petition was submitted to Rowley and Khan on September 7.

Since then there has been no response.

“Five times we went to the party’s constituency office to see Dr Rowley but were unsuccessful,” he said. Several attempts to contact Khan yesterday by phone were also unsuccessful.
