Thousands participate in Maritime 5k charity fundraiser
This year, the Maritime team put a new spin on the event: in addition to the 5K run, they hosted a Charity Fair. Various NGOs and charitable organisations attended to share information on the causes they champion, sell merchandise, and host games and activities to raise funds.
Organisations such as Healing with Horses, Just Because Foundation, the Caribbean Kids and Families Therapy Organisation, Wenz & Frenz, Join A Heart, the Voice of Lupus, the Down Syndrome Family Network, the Autistic Society, Kids in Need of Direction, the Dyslexia Association, Beauty in Essence, and En ToTo were all present. Kids from the Hope Centre also came out to partake in the fun.
Some of the winners in the 5K were Kelvin Johnson, Collin Pereira and Lionel D’Andrade, taking first, second and third place respectively in the men’s division; and Lindsay Mies, April Francis and Aaliyah Mitchell placing similarly in the women’s division.
The annual Run for Fun Fundraiser is part of Maritime’s corporate social responsibility initiative, ‘Our Children, Our Future’ which a release from the company described as “a testament to Maritime’s commitment to empowering Trinidad’s youth.” Maritime’s C.E.O and Chairman Andrew Ferguson explained, “100 per cent of the proceeds from this event will go towards helping those in need. We are proud to have hosted this event for the third consecutive year and we are especially excited about introducing the Charity Fair aspect.
We believe that giving a voice to those organisations that do such great work is just as important as providing them with a platform to raise awareness for their individual causes.
“We are truly grateful for the outpouring of support from our corporate sponsors and all of our partners who helped to make the event a huge success.”
