Tobago man jailed in dangerous driving death
Harmony Hall resident, Jairon Phillips represented by attorney Rehka Ramjit stood quietly as Justice David Harris handed down judgment at the Tobago High Court on Thursday.
In his submission, Harris said he took a number of factors into consideration in passing judgment.
“No amount of monies, compensation or even months or years even imposed on him, can reconcile the fact that Oseye Jabari is no longer with us. This sentence is not intended to restore human life. I do not believe that a disqualification from him holding a drivers permit commencing seven years after the incident would be particularly useful.” The accident occurred on October 6, 2009. Official police reports indicated Phillips was driving his green Nissan B13 along the Claude Noel Highway in the vicinity of the Dwight Yorke Stadium.
Whilst attempting to overtake a line of vehicles, the Nissan B13 came into contact with a silver Nissan Wingroad, driven by Hugh Hamilton, of Louis D’Or.
The four people in the Wingroad, Sita Victor, Heather Gray, Lenon George and Hamilton along with both occupants of the Nissan B13 Phillips and Jabari Leslie were rushed to the Scarborough General Hospital. Both Leslie and Gray had to be airlifted to seek further medical attention in Trinidad, however, Leslie succumbed to injuries while undergoing emergency medical surgery
