DPP GETS CARENAGE FILE
The file on the shooting of Carenage youth, Sherman Monsegue, has been passed on to the Director of Public Prosecutions, Geoffrey Henderson, suggesting that there is a possibility that someone will be charged. Monsegue’s killing by police officers, which occurred on October 13, provoked fiery protest from the people of Carenage. As a consequence an investigation was ordered by the Police Commissioner. Joseph said the investigation was completed on November 5 and on the same day the file was submitted to the Police Commissioner and to the DPP.
Joseph also announced that Cabinet agreed to the creation of 574 positions on the staff of the Fire Service. The positions allocated are as follows: Three fire station officers, 48 fire sub-officers, 523 firefighters. The expenditure for this is estimated at $29.9 million. He noted that earlier this year Cabinet allocated $48 million for equipment. Referring to the spate of fires recently in Point Fortin, Joseph said Government wanted to ensure that the Fire Service was in a position to respond to any eventuality.
