Not only did he demonstrated his vocal abilities, Lucas also moved in sync with the beat and rhythm of the music as he sang ‘I hope you dance’, a country-pop song by Lee Ann Womack. But in the end, Lucas, a former contestant in this year’s Digicel Rising Stars competition, judges disqualified him on the basis that he breached a rule.
Speaking to Newsday following his performance, the student admitted that had he qualified for the next round, he may have won the category.
“I think I gave a good performance.
I was not expecting to perform so good and maybe I could have been the winner.
I was not aware that I cannot use vocals in the background.
Last year when I entered Sanfest, I got a Grade One for a calypso,” Lucas said. Lucas of Basse Terre Village, Moruga, added he had been singing since the tender age of three and vow to continue singing.
This year’s festival, a collaboration between the San Fernando Arts Council (SFAC)and NGC , was launched last month under the theme ‘A Divine Alternative’. SFAC has dedicated this year’s NGC Sanfest to founder and first chairman, James Lee Wah.
