That’s all part of our history

Did the mulattos of our early days just drop from the sky? The “milk” we now see in our “coffee” (light/brown-skinned population) had to originate somewhere. I don’t see anything racial about that; that is part of our history, like it or not.

Since 1956 we have been singing Jean and Dinah and with the departure of the Americans from Chaguaramas, “the glamour boys”, as Sparrow described them, are today still ruling Port-of-Spain. Exponents of our calypso art form never cease to remind us that, thanks to their input, our history is preserved and kept alive. Why can’t our masmen do the same? When Brown Skin Girl was told in calypso to “stay home and mind baby” we all sang and jumped to the beat. All this is history you wouldn’t find in any textbook.

Are we still fighting to get royalties from the Andrews Sisters? At least we don’t have to go all the way to Point Cumana to get a Rum and Coca-Cola and even with today’s inflation the Yankee Dollar is easier to come by.
