Woman on 5 fraud charges

According to reports, the victims filed complaints to the Fraud Squad that the suspect gave them the assurance that she could secure ownership of State homes if they pay certain sums of money.

The victims claimed that after paying the money, they attempted to make contact with the suspect as to the status of their application for housing, she gave them various excuses.

All efforts to have the woman repay the money failed.

A party of officers under the supervision of Snr Supt Totaram Dookhie and including ASP Ghisawan and PCs Cummings, Hosein and others carried out extensive enquiries over a period of weeks which led to the suspect being detained last week Friday.

On Divali Day, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) gave instructions for the suspect to be formally charged and be brought before a San Fernando Magistrate today.
