Mayaro Mavericks’s team spirit proves decisive

In fact, without even asking, one will be assured by players and supporters alike that the team is like a family and their bond has played a significant role in their massive success over the past five years.

It certainly contributed to them sticking to their guns and believing in themselves in the final of the T10CCL this year when their main batsman, Ellon Lewis, brother of West Indies batsman, Evin Lewis, was run out early in the final without scoring.

The setback was nothing the team couldn’t handle as each player has a strong belief in their teammates’ abilities.

The Mavericks would eventually beat Debe Young Warriors by a convincing 21 runs in the final. Despite not making runs in the final, Ellon still finished the competition with the most runs overall, while another Mavericks player, Oaklee Marcano was adjudged the Most Valuable Youth Player, earning himself $5,000 worth of cricket equipment courtesy the blink/ bmobile Foundation.

According to Acting Chief Marketing Officer at TSTT , Camille Campbell, it is the Company’s way of contributing to the development of youth and sport as mandated by the mission of the blink/bmobile Foundation.

“We see the T10CCL as a fantastic opportunity to support community, youth and sport,” said Campbell.

She wished the Mavericks all the best moving forward and said she looked forward to seeing them defend their title next year.

Such a feat is one the Mavericks will be confident of achieving.

“This team has been together over five years now, so it’s the same bunch of players that have been bonding together a while now,” explained team skipper Sheldon Ramharack. “Our team is like a family because we are all from one community, so sometimes we just have sessions where we come together and lime and I think that has a huge impact on us, so that closeness is in the team always.” His sentiments were shared by Lewis, who has enjoyed playing with most of his teammates since the U-15 level.

“Even offseason, we organise everyone and make a cook sometimes, because it’s not because cricket season done, people won’t be meeting up.
