Moonilal claims conflict of interest in appointments
In a television interview, Moonilal alleged there could be questions over a conflict of interest with Sinanan where “future land acquisition” involving the ministry is concerned. Moonilal refused to give any details about this alleged conflict of interest but said, “matters will come to the fore,” in and out of Parliament.
Moonilal said while he was a United National Congress (UNC) deputy leader while serving as Housing Minister in the former People’s Partnership (PP) government, the issue is not party officials holding government posts.
He also questioned whether former San Fernando mayor Kazim Hosein was prepared to step into his new role as Rural Development and Local Government Minister on the eve of local government elections in Trinidad. In an earlier television interview, Sinanan said he will ensure that contracts awarded by the ministry follow proper procurement procedure.
