Time to tackle the fireworks problem
I can enjoy and appreciate a fireworks display which is a spectacular sight, especially when used in designated areas, such as the Divali Nagar, that are not in close proximity to residences at designated times and by designated, responsible individuals.
What is intolerable, however, is the use of fireworks directly over my house coming at me from all sides like an attack of machine-gun fire, extremely loud bangs and other piercing sounds.
Among the multitude of fireworks sold at Fireone are some that are quite aptly named — Evil Enemy, Conniption and Earthquake.
By the way, these devices cost hundreds of dollars so I don’t think that people who buy them are affected in any way by the economy as many people profess to be. It’s unbelievable that such earth-shattering, ear-splitting, soul- piercing noise can be equated with joy and celebration. I am therefore appealing to that side of Fireone’s MD that respects and cares for others and humbly and kindly ask you to reconsider the sale of such noisy, vicious instruments that cause such physical and mental torture to others.
As a compromise, I believe there are now noiseless fireworks which can be sourced.
To the authorities, if you would be willing to seriously address the blatant and flagrant breaking of the law with respect to fireworks and all incendiary devices, I think it would be an amazing act and it would show the citizens that we are serious about addressing crime.
To parents, I entreat you to take the time to instil the importance and value of obeying the laws of the land to your children despite the rampant lawlessness that exists in this country.
By being an example to them, especially by not indulging them in things that are illegal, you would be building your child’s character and virtue and contributing to the building up and not breaking down of our society.
