MSJ: UNC stole our campaign slogan
Speaking at an emergency press conference at the MSJ’s office on St Joseph Road, San Fernando yesterday morning, MSJ political leader David Abdulah said that the MSJ’s local government campaign slogan “Send Them a Message” was created several weeks ago by the party’s strategy team. It was printed on t-shirts, brochures and a campaign song composed and sung by soca artist, Preacher to party candidates and activists last Sunday. The slogan was published on the party’s Facebook page earlier this week.
However, it came to the party’s attention that the UNC published a flyer advertising its public meetings with the MSJ’s “send them a message” slogan as its tagline. “This act demonstrates just how bankrupt and bereft of ideas the UNC is,” said Abdulah. “Indeed it is also yet another manifestation of the moral corruption of the United National Congress, as it was corrupt while in Government so it is corrupt in its appeal to the electorate.” Abdulah said the MSJ would not be daunted by the UNC’s use of its slogan and took the opportunity to send the UNC a direct message.
“As the MSJ campaigns in the Boroughs of Point Fortin and Arima, the party will tell the burgesses to send the UNC a message by not voting for corruption.” UNC Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar was engaged in a meeting when reached for comment. Calls to other UNC officials went unanswered.
Abdulah said that the MSJ has not and will not have any communication with the UNC on the matter and indicated that it will be passed on to the MSJ’s attorneys.
The MSJ will officially launch its local government election campaign at 2 pm on Sunday in the auditorium of the San Fernando City Corporation.
Abdulah and the MSJ were one time members of the People’s Partnership coalition with Abdulah being offered a Government Senatorial appointment by then prime minister Persad-Bissessar.
However, Abdulah and the MSJ parted ways from the People’s Partnership.
