Man dies in his sports car
MICHAEL HOSPEDALES, 22, of Santa Flora, lost his life when his sports car flipped over the Freeport Flyover and fell hood down on the underpass. The accident occurred around 3 am yesterday. According to a police report, Hospedales, of Agopito Road, was driving along the South-bound lane when he lost control of his blue Sierra Sports car on reaching 100 yards before the flyover. The car struck the iron railing on the overpass, somersaulted and landed about 15 feet on the underpass, the report stated. Supt Mayers and PC Kissoon of the Freeport Police Station who visited the scene saw Hospedales pinned behind the steering wheel. He died on the spot.
District Medical Officer Dr Birja, ordered the body be removed to the San Fernando mortuary. Hospedales was a construction worker employed with a company in Point Fortin. His sister, Jean Williams, told Sunday Newsday yesterday that Hospedales had left Santa Flora on Friday evening to drop off two of his brothers at their cousin’s home in Arima. She said Hospedales was driving alone to his home in Santa Flora when the accident occurred. Williams said: “Although he had a sports car, he was not the type to speed. It maybe that he fell asleep.” Preliminary police investigations reveal-ed that Hospedales may have attempted to slow down while driving at a fast speed having regard to the tyre impression left on the road when he slammed the brakes.
