Cops seize ganja next door Anti-Crime Unit

Officers of the Port-of-Spain Divisional Task Force yesterday seized 12.5 kilos of compressed marijuana, in a house at El Socorro, a mere stone’s throw from the Anti Crime Unit base. According to reports, officers led by Ag Sgt Moore and Cpl Billy executed a search warrant at a house at Ramzan Drive, El Socorro around 6.15 am yesterday, where they allegedly found 12 packets of compressed marijuana expertly wrapped in cellophane.

A 37-year-old woman, an occupant of the house, was arrested, while her 38-year old male companion fled. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the man. Police told Newsday they have information that the drugs were earmarked for export. They also believe that with the seizure of the drugs and the arrest of the woman, they may be able to crack a major marijuana smuggling ring in El Socorro. Investigators also believe the drugs were being exported with the use of boats along the nearby Caroni river. During the same exercise yesterday, officers went to Laventille where they arrested two murder suspects ages 16 and 18. The two were wanted in connection with two recent shooting deaths in Laventille. The exercise, led by Snr Supt Errol Denoon, started on Wednesday night and ended yesterday.
