Former inmates graduate from UWI
TWO persons, who were granted Presidential pardons, are among more than 500 persons who graduated on Friday night from the UWI School of Continuing Studies (SOCS). The announcement was made by Dr Lennox Bernard, Resident Tutor and Head of SOCS, who in addressing the function at UWI’s Sport and Physical Education Centre, did not identify the persons who were among recipients of Certificates. He did say though, that one of the graduates earned an award, based on his performance.
The other attended the School’s Sixth Form and won an award in computer studies and was granted a scholarship by the Principal of UWI to pursue a degree in Computer Science. This individual is currently an assistant tutor with the school. Dr Bernard also said, “The two individuals are both doing exceptional work as tutors in the prison community, giving back as it were, to the society that has been compassionate to them. “We hope to extend our links with that community, thereby giving hope and a second chance to deserving individuals.”
