Woman brutally chopped in east Tobago
A woman was brutally chopped on Tuesday by a man she reportedly knew at Studley Park, near Mt St George, in east Tobago. Sandra Seemungal, in her late 30s, was rushed to the Scarborough Hospital in critical condition with severe chop wounds to the head, face, neck and about the body. Preparations were being made late Tuesday to transfer the victim to Trinidad for specialist medical attention. The incident reportedly occurred around 3 pm at Seemungal’s home near the Studley Park Quarry. According to police reports, a man the victim knew visited her home several hours prior to the incident.
The victim reportedly told the man that she wished to have nothing to do with him. She then left and went out. On her return, she found her clothes burnt, and she summoned the police. The police did not find an intruder and left, while the victim remained at home. Then, at around 3 pm, a Ready Mix employee saw a commotion at Seemungal’s home and alerted his co-workers. They ran to the woman’s assistance and a man who was allegedly chopping her, fled the scene. A 27-year-old suspect from Mason Hall has since surrendered to the police. Detective Sgt Garfield Moore of the Scarborough CID is continuing investigations.
