Murder/suicide couple to be cremated together

DEONARINE Ramkhelawan who on Monday killed his wife and then committed suicide, will not get his final wish as outlined in his suicide note — that he be placed in the same casket as that of his wife. Instead, the couple will be placed in separate caskets for the funeral but will be cremated on a pyre at the Shores of Peace, South Trunk Road, South Oropouche.

An autopsy carried out yesterday by pathologist Dr Hughvon des Vignes revealed Ramkhelawan strangled his wife Rookmin and then hanged himself. The couple, both aged 51, was found dead by their sons Shalindra and Navindra around 6.10 pm on Monday. Rookmin, also known as “Rita,” was found in a bedroom at their Clarke Road home in Penal while Ramkhelawan was found hanging from a nylon belt attached to a rafter at the back of the house.
