Champs East crush Tobago in Shell U-15 cricket

Outstanding bowling performances by Vasant Singh, who took four wickets for 22 runs in his allotted ten overs, sent Tobago crashing to 65 all out in 29.3 overs at Shaw Park in Scarborough.

And East Zone, triple crowned winners in the Inter Zone tournament last year, romped to victory in just 69 balls, completing an emphatic nine-wicket victory, finishing at 63 for the loss of just one wicket.

There were also big wins for North Zone, South East, and South on the backs of strong batting performances with set up an interesting second round of matches today.

At Fatima Ground in Mucurapo, North Zone defeated North East by 70 runs; South East beat South West by 70 runs in Point Fortin, and in Penal, South Zone overcame Central by nine wickets.

North were dismissed for 138 in 45.2 overs with Zachary Siewah top-scoring with 25 and Aidan Samaroo (18) and Jonty Ramdeen (16) also among the runs. Bowling for North East, Vasant Singh grabbed four wickets for 22 runs in his 10 overs. But equally splendid bowling by North’s Sachin Emrit and Samaroo, who both took three wickets, and Suraj Rampersad with two, humbled North East for 68 all out in 21 overs.

At James Park in Point Fortin, South East rattled up 153 for three wickets in 35 overs as Brandon Dookeran (50) scored one of three half-centuries in the first round of the 2017 tournament, as South East also got useful contributions from Isaiah Hyman (28) and Isiah Gomez, 21 not out.

And penetrative bowling by Varun Lallbeharry (two wickets for nine runs), Mikel Grant (two for 18) and Isiah Gomez (two for three) bowled out South West for 83 in 28 overs for a whopping 70-run victory.

At PowerGen Ground in Syne Village in Penal, Central Zone posted a competitive score of 189 for six wickets in 50 overs with Aaron Banks making 43, Shiva Sankar, 39, and Raul Pitiram, 21. For South Tariq Mohammed and Ryall Narine both claimed two wickets apiece.

South however, powered by an undefeated 57 from Kyle Roopchand, 51 from Rodney Beharry, and Mohammed with 42 not out reached their winning target for the loss of only one wicket in 45.2 overs.
