Toco retain Schools Track and Field crown
Toco ended the twoday competition with 504.5 points, almost 200 points ahead of second placed Bishop’s High School (Tobago) which ended with 310.5 points.
Finishing third were Sangre Grande Secondary with 144.5 points, Scarborough Secondary were fourth with 125 points and Signal Hill Secondary rounded off the top five with 115 points.
Toco also snatched the girls title, while Bishops’ High were crowned champions in the boys category.
Toco showed their versatility, winning the sprint and distance events. In the girls 3000-metre finals, Donicia Antoine won gold in 11 minutes, 54.54 seconds (11:54.54), while Antoine’s schoolmate Otis Barker landed gold in 17:25.44 in the boys 5000m open.
Among the other winners for Toco were Xea Bruce and Carifta athlete Tyrell Edwards.
Bruce claimed gold in the girls Under-16 800m event in 2:28.56, while Cassandra Joseph took silver for Toco in 2:32.64.
Edwards did not let a false start by another athlete affect him, as he won the boys 200m Over-18 comfortably in 21.39.
Another Carifta athlete who won gold yesterday was Tyriq Horsford of Signal Hill, who won the boys Under-18 javelin with a top throw of 65.76 metres. Earlier this month, Horsford won his third consecutive Under-18 javelin gold medal at the Carifta Games. Horsford’s Carifta teammates Caliyah Wallace and Timothy Frederick won their respective 200m events.
Wallace of St Francois won the girls Under- 16 event in 25.40; Frederick of Vessigny Secondary had control of the boys Under-18 race at the 100m mark, winning the event in 21.44.
