Couple may not return to Trinidad

Irwin was left nursing second degree burns to his back after angry bandits doused him with a pot of hot water when they couldn’t get more valuables. The Seenaths returned to Florida yesterday.

A police report stated that at 8 am on Tuesday, the couple were at their home on Southern Main Road, La Romaine when two masked men entered and announced a hold-up. The couple was robbed of cell phones and $750. According to reports, the robbery turned violent when the couple resisted the bandits’ attempts to get more valuables.

The robbery occurred during peak morning hours and unaware to those passing on the busy main road, inside the downstairs apartment, the bandits bound the victims’ hands and feet with tie straps.

They ripped a blanket and gagged Judy before making them lie on the floor. One of them then removed a pot of boiling water and doused Seenath down his back.

When they were finally rescued Irwin was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and later discharged.

When reporters visited the family’s home, Irwin whose neck was heavily bandaged said he was in fear of his life and did not wish to speak. A female relative however spoke on his behalf.

“What shocked me about this is that they (Seenaths) don’t go out anywhere, they don’t draw attention to themselves and they are not flashy. I am surprised that they were targeted like that.” She added, “People must know how dangerous crime is here. You read it in the papers and you think it wouldn’t affect you, but it happens and it is really bad. I hope they catch the persons.” The relative said, “Imagine one of them whispered instructions to ransack the house.

When they didn’t get what they wanted, they tied them up with those tie straps, cut a blanket and gagged his wife and put them on the ground and then threw the hot water down Irwin’s back. All his neck was burnt. He was burnt pretty badly. Right now, I am telling you, they don’t think they will ever come back Trinidad.” No one has been arrested for the robbery.
