Men ordered to pay fines, compensation
Jairam Anangoo, 34, and Anil Chatoor, 39, stood before Mag- istrate Cherril-Anne Antoine charged with stealing items from Rising Star Restaurant Grill and Lounge in San Fernando.
Anangoo and Chatoor pleaded guilty in the First Court. Court prosecutor Cleydon Seedan said the items were stolen on April 21, 24 and 27 as well as May 11, from the businessplace at Hilda Lazzari Street in San Fernando. On realising the items missing, Persad reported the matter to the Mon Repos Police and PC Shaun Mohammed led investigations.
Mohammed charged Anangoo with three counts of larceny. He also jointly charged Anangoo and Chatoor with one count of larceny.
Attorney Ainsley Lucky summed up the incident as, “a telling indictment of employment exploitation”.
Their actions, Lucky added, were the result of economic necessity.
Anangoo was fined $1,900 for each of the four charges while Chatoor was fined $1,900 on the one charge. Anangoo was ordered to pay compensation in the sum of $31,960.14, while Chatoor must pay $2,682 in compensation.
Both were given two months or in default, each serve four months imprisonment with hard labour for the fines and six-weeks simple imprisonment for the compensation
