$75, 000 bail for Sheron
The businessman as well as all other prisoners due to appear in court was not present yesterday before Magistrate Wendy Dougdeen- Bally due to a water problem at the Remand Prison in Arouca.
Sukhdeo was however represented by attorneys Tadarath Singh, Jagdeo Singh and Stephan Ramkissoon.
When Sukhdeo appeared in court on Wednesday, following his arrest on Tuesday, Magistrate Dougdeen-Bally denied him bail and asked for his passport at the next court appearance. Yesterday, attorney Jagdeo Singh produced a passport, but Magistrate Dougdeen- Bally said something was amiss.
She recalled that at an unrelated court hearing about a year ago, Sukhdeo’s attorney claimed that the businessman was out of the country at that time. The passport given yesterday, however, showed no evidence of Sukhdeo ever leaving the country as claimed by his attorney at the previous hearing.
Sukhdeo’s wife Rachael who was in court yesterday, was asked by her husband’s attorneys to look into the matter. It was later discovered that an old passport was brought to court in error. Magistrate Dougdeen- Bally stood down the case to allow for the current passport to be brought to court. When this was done later yesterday, the magistrate granted Sukhdeo bail.
He was also ordered to vacate his home. Sukhdeo was granted time between 2 pm and 4 pm this Saturday, to return to his home to collect his belongings. He was warned to stay at least 100 feet away from Rachael and stop all communication with her. He must report to the court on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Sukhdeo will reappear in court on June 14.
Last February, Sukhdeo was charged with assaulting his wife who decided eight months later that she did not wish to continue with the case. Sukhdeo is also out on bail for charges of receiving stolen vehicles and uttering false documents.
