La Brea MP promises to deliver election promises

“After all these years, we are finally going to have an ATM service. Years ago, there was a Republic Bank branch in La Brea but it was closed. The nearest ATM is in Point Fortin or the Gulf City mall in La Romaine.

Before the end of this year, we expect to have an ATM back into the community,” Olivierre said.

She spoke on Wednesday at the La Brea Roman Catholic Primary School during a sports day for the First and Second year students.

Principal Laura Chen and staff members oversaw the sports day.

MP Olivierre said her office has started discussions with First Citizens Bank over theATM issue.

“They have indicated some sort of willingness to have an ATM within the community.

Right now, we are in the process of citing a suitable location,” Olivierre said.

The former energy minister recalled that in the 2015 general election campaign, she promised to address many issues plaguing residents including the absence of an ATM and a library.

Years ago, fire damaged the La Brea Public Library in New Village which never reopened. “We are working with a company on the (La Brea Industrial Development Company Limited) estate which expressed a willingness to renovate the library building. We expect work to begin by year’s end,” Olivierre said.

She added that plans are in train for refurbishment of the community centre.

“The centre is still being used although it is in a dilapidated condition. We are working with some corporate entities at Labidco to rectify that situation,” she said.
