Airbrush makeup for brides
Airbrush makeup is typically used for high definition television, digital photography and weddings. With all the professional photography, videography and social media sharing that takes place at a wedding nowadays, brides want to ensure that they look their best. Today, I want to address some misconceptions about airbrush makeup and share my thoughts on having it done on your wedding day.
When done skilfully, airbrush makeup can create a beautiful, natural, long lasting look. Artists from accredited schools who have gone through months or even years of training usually have direct access to professional grade products and equipment, which typically are not available to your average consumer.
If not done with the right products, airbrush makeup can accentuate your pores, it may not last on your skin and the finish won’t be flawless. It will be in your best interest to seek a professional if you are interested in trying it.
Airbrush makeup is popular with brides for a few reasons. It feels lighter than traditional makeup. Some formulas don’t need to be set with powder, which means one less layer of makeup on your face. It looks more flawless than traditional makeup because you don’t see brush strokes, finger prints, lines or texture that sponges can create. Most formulas are usually transfer and water resistant. It is meant to be suitable for HD video and photos, so your skin will look great in person, in videos and with flash photography.
There are many formulas, so there will not be one that works for all skin types; water based formulas will be best for sensitive skin, silicone based formulas will work on most skin types, and alcohol based formulas will be best for extremely oily skin and covering tattoos or imperfections on the body. The only downsides to airbrush makeup would be the price, and that it clings to peach fuzz. If you opt to try it in conjunction with dermaplaning or other peach fuzz removal techniques, you will get flawless results.
If you have any concerns about airbrush makeup, I highly recommend that you do a trial prior to your wedding. Ensure that you like the finish and the makeup lasts all day on you. If for whatever reason, the makeup doesn’t agree with you, a skilled artist should be able to create a beautiful look for you using traditional makeup. This is why doing a trial is so important. As previously mentioned, it would be in your best interest to seek a trained, professional airbrush artist.
So, what are my thoughts on airbrush makeup versus traditional makeup? I do not necessarily think one is better than the other. Both formulas can be water resistant or waterproof, transfer proof and give a flawless finish. The only major differences would be cleanliness, the ease of achieving that flawless finish and the lightweight feel. It can be cleaner because you don’t have to use sponges or brushes on the skin. A professional should ideally have hygienic products and tools so that’s not a major concern.
The lightweight feel is definitely an advantage, especially if it’s an outdoor wedding. It can be quite uncomfortable to feel like you have a mask of makeup caked on in sweltering heat. Airbrush makeup can create full coverage that still manages to feel lightweight. Talk to your artist and voice any concerns you have before you decide to do a trial. Since it can be a more expensive service, you should be comfortable with your investment.
