EMA observes World Environment Day

She said without a healthy environment in Trinidad and Tobago, we could not end poverty or build prosperity. Lall implored that people get out more, spent more time with nature to appreciate its beauty and protect the earth. Lall said WED was the largest global annual event for positive environmental action each year.

Chairman of the EMA Nadra Nathai -Gyan said the day represented a universal platform for bringing environmental issues to the fore, while stimulating corrective action through advocacy, legislative measures, public awareness and positive activities.

Yesterday’s World Environment Day was designated by the United Nations Assembly in 1972 at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment stemming from a worrying concern for the human environment.

Nathai-Gyan said the EMA, as a maturing entity, did recognise there was much more to accomplish.

“The road ahead for the EMA is a challenging task, but no challenge is insurmountable.

We as the EMA are committed to provide sustainability guidelines, encourage citizen science and increase sensitisation on our limited resources,” Nathai- Gyan said. The EMA has created an open house to create avenues to reconnect people to their natural environment, seeking to transform a physical space into an institute of learning and appreciating the land’s biodiversity.
