Debe man jailed for stealing copper

Hansram Dookran appeared before Magistrate Cheryl Ann Antoine and pleaded guilty to a charge of larceny and was subsequently sentenced to six months hard labor.

According to reports, the missing items valued at approximately $6,000 were discovered missing on Wednesday morning by an employee of the TT Electricity Commission (TTEC).

Investigations led by TTEC Estate Police Sergeant Otis Mills and WEC Beharry, acting on a lead, visited Dookran’s home where the items were discovered and he was arrested.

TTEC via a media release reminded the public that interference with public installations and making private, unsactioned connections was illegal under the Electricity Act, Chapter 54:70.

“The public is therefore warned against carrying out such acts, which also pose a serious threat to safety.”
