Debisette expresses oil spill concerns
On Tuesday morning, oil deposits were once again spotted at both beaches leading to another clean-up exercise by Petrotrin.
In a media release yesterday, Petrotrin stated clean-up operations had been completed on Wednesday morning though it pointed that the source of the oil was “still undetermined and investigations are ongoing.” “The company will continue to monitor the beaches,” Petrotrin stated, adding it wished to “thank all stakeholders for their assistance and cooperation in completing these clean-up activities in a safe and timely manner.” Meanwhile, Debisette said the seeming regularity of the oil spills was a “cause of concern” as the causes are yet to be known.
“It is definitely worrying and I don’t know if it is a lack of maintenance of the facility but, I can’t say but it’s very much a cause for concern because it is affecting our beaches,” he said.
Debisette, however, confirmed that the clean-up operation had been completed on the beaches saying the oil spill was “not that intensive” and the clean-up had finished by 10am on Wednesday morning.
