Parents hit bookstores early
Newsday visited numerous book stores within the capital and got the view that textbooks were the main thing at the top of every parent’s back to school shopping list.
“I am focussing on buying my child’s books first because some of these primary school textbooks are scarce. I had to visit a lot of book stores before I found one book,” said Onifa Murrey from Belmont.
Another parent from Diego Martin, Marcus Alexander, said that books were running out and he had to get them quickly.
The store manager of Ishmael M Khan & Sons Ltd, Norine Bazie said, “The sale of books is following its usual pattern at our book stores.
While it is picking up gradually, parents are spending with a plan.
They are purchasing the scarcest books now and coming back for the rest later.” Nickos Baptiste, father of one told Newsday that his main priority was purchasing textbooks.
“It isn’t that busy, yet, but wait until the end of this month, that is why I came early,” said Baptiste.
Joanne Harriott, mother of four from Laventille agreed that the race for books is picking up but also found textbooks to be quite expensive. “I am buying my children’s school supplies piece by piece, because down to uniforms are expensive around this time,” said Harriott.
