Another conspiracy theory

Conspiracy theories can be completely plausible as they try to make sense of nonsense, something that our rational selves are very keen to do. Those who study conspiracy theorists explain that people believe so that they can structure their lives and give meaning to what could easily be random. Apparently, research shows that the more out of control we feel the more prone we are to pluck conspiracies out of thin air.

When pursuing ideas about wrongdoing one is taught to follow the money, and so too in conspiracy theory. It was with great interest therefore that I read on the Internet site transcend.org about a terminally ill former CIA operative who decided to make public his role in the 9/11 atrocity.

He is not the first person to suggest that the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre (WTC) in New York on 11th September 2001 was not carried out by just Al-Qaeda, but 79-year-old Malcolm Howard claims to have been involved in the “controlled demolition” of the third WTC building that collapsed in flames on that fateful day, building 7.

He tells of working on the CIA operation “new Century” between May 1997 and September 2001 as part of a 4-person cell charged with making the demolition look as if it was not a demolition even though it was a classic exercise, with thousands of explosives loaded in strategic places. For a month before 11 September they smuggled all they needed into the building, then when the twin North and South towers burned WTC 7 was fully evacuated and fuses ignited, “nanothermite explosions hollowed out the building, destroying the steel structure, removing the reinforcements, and allowing the office fires to tear through the rest of the building, hollowing it out like a shell.” It was the world’s only steel skyscraper to ever collapse due to office fires but unsuspecting onlookers, although amazed at how quickly WTC7 went down, believed the story that debris floating over from the Twin Towers, which had been hit by passenger planes, started the WTC7 fire.

Mr Howard’s confession will be music to the ears of the Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, a non-profit educational organisation established by professionals internationally to argue against the official 9/11 narrative and prove the science behind the conspiracy theory. Their website ae911truth.org gives copious, compelling evidence gathered on the complete destruction of all three buildings, which they say could not have been caused just by planes or office fires and were “controlled demolitions”.

So what was the motivation for the terrorist attack, and whose? Following the money points to the monumental profit to be made from the wreckage, insurance and rebuilding. Evidence exists that just before the unforgettable towering infernos there was unusually high level and specific stock market trading - insider trading, according to transcend.org. Italy’s foreign minister, Antonio Martino is reported to have said, “I think that there are terrorist states and organizations behind speculation on the international markets.” German central bank president, Ernst Welteke, also reportedly said that his researchers had found “almost irrefutable proof of insider trading.” And CNN reported that regulators were seeing “ever-clearer signs” that someone “manipulated financial markets ahead of the terror attack in the hope of profiting from it.” Yet, the official 9/11 Commission report claimed that no insider trading had taken place and no connection existed between traders and Al-Qaeda. Enter conspiracy theorists.
