SWAHA focuses on youths
Coordinator of the Swaha celebrations Kalyaani Persad says the Sanskrit word ‘Krishna’ means, all attractive.
“As prescribed in the Bhagwat Gita, repeating the name of ‘Krishna’ brings devotees closer to God and away from the troubles of the world,” Kalyaani said as she addressed youths at the Sri Raam Dhaam Temple, Upper St Lucien Road, Diego Martin last Friday.
Persad said she believes youths of TT and the world are crying out for guidance, love and affection from their elders and leaders.
“People are caught up in everyday living and not totally focused on the children of today.
The children from their respective families and from the villages,” she said, adding that many say youths are carried away by social media and electronic games and do not socialize enough.
“But the adults are also taken up by social media,” she said, adding that even when people attend religious events they are still on their phones and iPads.
This, she says, is the major reason why people feel alone and are always in fear. Many of the youths, she noted, can easily turn to a life of crime because they want to live in a dream world where money buys happiness.
