Pan plays on d’Avenue

Prior to the parade Suave Steel will entertain patrons at Adam Smith Square and there will be Arabian dancing and an award ceremony beginning at 6 pm.

Among the awardees are some residents of Woodbrook and long-standing members of some steelbands. Among the awardees are Arjoon/Ramkissoon, Blackman/ Hinkson, Carew, Chan Sing, Chuckaree, Clarke, Corriea, Dharrie-Maharaj, Dolly, Douglas, Granderson, Hadeed, Harper, Ayow/Hospedales, Jaggernauth, Karam, Largen, Lee Kim, Lee Loy, Mahabir, Mankee, Pantin, Persad, Rollock/ Germaine, Sabga, Sealy, Waddle, Walker and Woods/Sherriff families.

The steelpan parade will then follow on Ariapita Avenue, Woodbrook, from Taylor Street to Colville Street.

The event is in memory of Woodbrook mas legend, Stephen Derek, and the Wasafoli Rhythm Section and dancers will start the parade followed by Derek’s masqueraders, who will make Derek’s work come alive once again, courtesy his family whose intention is to showcase his work.

The San Juan East Side Symphony will lead of the pan parade accompanied by traditional mas characters and moko jumbies.
