WASA receives $50M shipment of pipes

In keeping with its ongoing thrust to significantly improve the service level in TT, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) received its first shipment of ductile iron pipes from Brazil on February 12. WASA CEO Errol Grimes met with the National Energy Corporation president Prakash Saith at Brighton Port, La Brea, yesterday to inspect the shipment of 500mm and 800mm ductile iron pipes which are to be stored at Labidco and Carlsen Field.

In addition to improving the water supply to several communities in La Brea from two days per week to a 24/7 supply, the pipes, worth TT$50 million, will carry an increased water supply to Labidco and Union Estate with approximately 1.2 million gallons of water daily. The ductile iron pipes and valves and fittings from French-based international company, Saint Gobain - PAM, are part of WASA’s three-year investment programme valued at TT$1.4 billion. WASA anticipates its second shipment of ductile iron pipes from Colombia in early March.
