Man held in mayor’s son’s stabbing
A 20-year-old San Fernando man was held on Tuesday in connection with a report that he stabbed Colin Atherly, son of San Fernando Mayor Ian Atherly. Colin, 29, of Gulf View Villas in La Romain, was struck on the head with a glass bottle and stabbed on the right wrist by a man last Saturday. Police said the incident occurred in front of Mayor Atherly’s business place — Atherly’s By The Park, Cipero Street.
According to a police report, Colin had an argument with a man over the parking of a vehicle near the business place. A struggle ensued, police said, during which the man allegedly struck Atherly on the head with a bottle, and then stabbed him. The man then ran away. Colin was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was treated and discharged. The suspect was expected to be put on an identification parade at the Marabella Police Station yesterday. PC Inshan Teeluck is investigating.
