40 murders in 48 days

Official figures from the Homicide Bureau revealed that up to  yesterday, 40 people had been murdered in violent circumstances. During the same period last year, 33 persons had been murdered. Six of the 40 people killed were females and most of the murders occurred in the Port-of-Spain Division. Sources told Newsday the murder toll was frightening and most of the murders were being carried out with guns.

January 12 was described as the bloodiest day of the year with five persons being killed that day. The deaths of Laventille father of three Ronald Inniss, 38, and his children, Renna, 6, Raul, 4, and Rondell, 9, who were burnt to death at Duke Street, Port-of-Spain, on February 6, are yet to be classified by the police. The death of Clint Sukhu, 30, who was found with wounds at his Penal home, has been referred for an inquest.

The murders for the year are as follows:
January 1 — Arnold Montrose, 32, of Crown Trace, Tacarigua — shot dead.
January 2 — Stephen “Hawk” Francois, 26, killed at Village Council Street, Laventille — shot.
January 3 — Randell Bowen, 26, of Chaguanas shot dead.
January 3 — Ashim Alleyne, 29, of George Street, Port-of-Spain — shot dead.
January 3 — Blair, 44, of Eagle Hall Road, Newlands Village, Point Fortin — stabbed to death.
Janury 4 — Damien “Wacko” Sutherland, 19, shot on Old Year’s eve — He died four days later.
January 7 — Raffique Rahim, 44, of New Grant — beaten to death.
January 7 — Marvin Romero, 31 shot three times at Pump Trace, Laventille.
January 8 — Matthew “Pharoah” Polo, 34 — fatally chopped in front of his wife and children at Factory Road, Diego Martin.
January 11 — Leslie Stanisclaus, 32 — alias “Falco” of Toco stabbed to death.
January 12 — Atiba David, 17 — shot in the head at Hermitage Road, Belmont.
January 12 — Kevin Bernard and Bernard Dixon — shot dead at Hermitage Road, Belmont.
January 12 — Susan Rajkumar, 51, chopped and shot at Thornhill Street, Belmont.
January 12 — Sham Ramdass, 52 — chopped and shot at Thornhill Street, Belmont.
January 12 — Keith Villafana, 46 of Thick Village, Siparia — killed and dumped at South Trunk Road, La Romaine.
January — Larry Adams of Mango Alley, Trou Macaque, Laventille — stabbed to death at South Quay , Port-of-Spain.
January 18 — Jurgen Keck, 51 — shot dead at Aquaview Terrace, Carenage.
January 18 — Kelmiss McCarthy, 41 — shot four times at Diego Martin Main Road.
January 20 — Jules Farrel, 29 — head bashed in at Blanchisseuse Road. Body found in trunk of car.
January 22 — Farouk Ali — shot eight times at Bois Bande Village, Sangre Grande.
January 25 — Carl Stone, 60, — shot and robbed. His body was found at Papourie Road, La Romaine.
January 27 — Michael Roberts, 28 — shot dead close to the tanks at Picton Road, Laventille.
January 28 — Arima waitress Dale Mathews, 40 — of Pinto Road, Arima, beaten and head bashed in.
January 29 — Samuel Manette,18, of Desperlie Crescent — shot dead.
January 30- Vaughn Peters, 17, of Straker Lane, Pump Trace, Laventille — shot in ribs at John John Towers.
February 1 — Clifton Alleyne, 46, of Princes Town — stabbed several times in chest and back.
February 4 — Mark Marcano, 25, of Diego Martin — shot three times at Brunton Avenue, Diego Martin.
February 6 — Keon Sargeant, 19 — gunned down at a Carnival fete in Morvant.
February 6 — Zimba Gordon, 18 — gunned down at a carnival fete in Morvant.
February — Nassau Charles, 23, of Belmont — gunned down at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
February 7 — Radha Ramsaran of Lopinot — set on fire-died from injuries.
February 8 — Anthony Sorias, 33 — shot dead and tied to a tree in Arima.
February 9 — Stephen Sahadath, 49 — shot dead outside his El Socorro home.
February 11 — Ashford Luckhee, 54, of Claxton Bay, —snatched from his home and his body found in a Chaguanas canefield.
February 12 — Adrian Williams, 21, of Piketteville Road, Laventille — shot dead at Espinet Street, Laventille.
February 13 — Hamina Mona Rampersad, 62 — beaten and strangled at her Barataria home.
February 14 — Natalie Celestine — shot in the mouth during Jouvert.
February 15 — Brian Davis, 23, of Belmont — gunned down at Harpe Place.
February 15 — Michael McMillan — shot at Wharton Street, Laventille on February 14.
