PNM ADAMANT: MORE SEATS FOR TOBAGO
WITH THE Elections and Boundaries Commission having gained approval from Cabinet to increase the number of constituencies within Trinidad and Tobago from 36 to 39, the People’s National Movement (PNM) yesterday said it was asking the EBC to reconsider the Tobago component which will remain at two constituencies.
This was revealed by PNM party chairman Franklin Khan in a press-briefing after the party’s monthly General Council meeting at the San Fernando East Constituency Office. Khan said that the EBC is proposing to increase the total number of constituencies to 41 with increase to the number in Trinidad from 36 to 39 and Tobago remaining at two.
The PNM recently won a landslide victory with 11 of the 12 seats in the Tobago House of Assembly. The PNM stated that it has considered and accepted the recommendation of the EBC but the party itself has a recommendation for the division of the constituencies on Tobago which are currently divided into Tobago East and Tobago West. The PNM currently hold both seats in the Parliament.
