NO FISH IN TOWN

FISH continued to be far out at sea yesterday, remaining elusive to hungry fast food fish lovers during this Lenten period. Replenished stock of fish at KFC had again run out by yesterday. When Newsday checked with the Independence Square outlet, we were told they were out of fish  Lenten specials and we should check today.

At Mario’s the only Lenten specials were vegetarian pizzas. An attendant said Mario’s was not advertising Lenten fish specials and she was not sure whether there would be any before the end of Lent. She said she didn’t think it had anything to do with the shortage of fish. Telephones at Royal Castle were unanswered. On Friday Kurtis Rudd, Marketing Manager of Prestige Holdings, the local franchise holder for KFC, said the demand for fish and the scarcity had forced the company to source fish from Miami.

He said they had received fish supplies and assured that fish meals would return to the menus at its outlets. Although outlets sold fish last Thursday, the promise that there would be an available supply was broken yesterday. Rudd had also indicated that the Lenten fish specials may have a “minimal” increase in prices. Fish has been scarce so far for this Lenten season and as a result is being sold at exorbitant prices.
