Freeport police recover stolen car

ALERT OFFICERS of the Freeport Highway Patrol arrested a suspect and recovered a stolen vehicle hours after it was reported missing on Saturday. The drama unfolded during a road block exercise at the Uriah Butler Highway in the vicinity of the Charlieville Walkover, when officers around 3.30 pm observed a blue Corolla reversing on the shoulder of the highway. The officers gave chase on foot and were able to apprehend the suspect. When the suspect was searched, police found two knives in his possession.


Police ran a search on the car which revealed that the vehicle had been stolen in the Arima district around 9.30 am that day. The 42-year-old suspect of Heri Street, Cocorite Road, Arima was arrested and handed over to the Arima police. The suspect will be charged with a series of offences including larceny of a vehicle, driving without a permit and insurance, failing to produce a driver’s permit and insurance and possession of offensive weapons. The road block was supervised by Ag Insp Maxime, spearheaded by PC Dookee and included PCs Ramoutar, Ramkissoon, Lacaille, Rampersad, Ramdath and Marcelle.
