Glencoe woman snatched
A GLENCOE Gardens housewife yesterday became TT’s seventh kidnap victim for the year and the second in two days for the month of March. Tamen Abraham, 60, a mother of three of Strathavon Avenue in Glencoe, was kidnapped around 6 am, while exercising with a friend along Windsurf Circular, Westmoorings by the Sea. According to reports, Abraham and her friend were walking along the Circular as they usually do, when a white car with two men pulled up alongside her. One of the men grabbed Abraham, who put up a fight. She was eventually overpowered and pushed into a car, and the abductors sped away. Up to press time there was no ransom demand for her release.
When Newsday visited the family’s home, worried friends and relatives refused to speak except to say she was kidnapped around 6.10 am while walking and they have heard nothing from the kidnappers. Abraham’s kidnapping is the seventh for the year and the third unsolved up to press time. In January Robert Maharaj, Rupert Ramjattan and Ramkanath Parry were kidnapped in different scenarios. They were all freed. In February, Chris Elves and Imam Azzizool Baksh were kidnapped. Baksh has since been released.
On March 2, veterinarian Azizmul Rahaman was kidnapped from his La Sieva Road, Maraval business place. Abraham was kidnapped yesterday. No ransom demands were made in either case and both victims are still being held. Officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad said that each kidnapping is receiving urgent attention, but they refused to give details. Police sources also told Newsday that there was a meeting where new strategies to deal with the escalating murders and kidnapping in the East-West Corridor were discussed.
